Hello Again!
Barbara is visiting her newest grandson (along with her Father and siblings) in Washington State this week (as well as parts of last and next) leaving AJ and I to fend for ourselves. Symantha (realizing our culinary clumsiness) took advantage of the opportunity and cleverly offered to feed us if we showed up at her place Saturday morning. Well, this sounded good to a pair of starving bachelors, so not even suspecting a devious scheme, AJ and I left for Safford about 0600 hours, with visions on hot biscuits dancing in our heads. Oh, what a tangled web...
But there was a catch. Symantha was out of her secret ingredient, and to procure more required a trip to the store in Thatcher. Unfortunately, the water pump on her car had ceased to circulate water (in favor of a single pass cooling protocol), and her radiator reservoir had not been upgraded to compensate.
Fortunately, AJ had the foresight to throw in about 85 pounds of tools just before we left home.
It had been raining for a day and a night in Oracle, the sky was overcast and threatening, and road through Globe and across the reservation was wet almost all the way there, but miraculously the mud pit in which Symantha habitually parks her car had dried up.
Now, water pumps on sideways mounted engines can be a bit of a chore, so AJ and I got right to work.
First we tinkered with the top.
Then we tinkered with the bottom.
Then we tinkered with the top and bottom at the same time.
Then we traded places and tinkered with the bottom and the top at the same time.
Oh what a fun times were had by all.
Even the dog enjoyed it (although she refuse to chase screwdrivers or oil cans).
A careful perusal of the photographs will reveal who worked, and who laid down on the job.
At last it was finished. All things considered, it was fairly easy. We had to remove the tire, the mud flap, the reservoirs (coolant and windshield washer), the serpentine belt, and 9 bolts. We arrived at 0835, and had the job finished and road tested by 11:05 (including a trip to the autoparts store to replace the piece we broke).
Unfortunately, that was Symantha's bed time, so we left her to sleep, and made our way home (though the intermittent rain) breakfastless. But all was not lost. On the trip we tried a new ice cream. Now, I have never liked the idea of giving ice creams names, but I will admit that some of the better flavors have names instead of descriptions (i.e. Buried Treasure). This one had the unlikely name, "Diet Another Day." It is cheese cake flavored with chunks of cheese cake and pecans. That is an unlikely sounding combination, but I recommend it to those of you who are not dieting today.
Dad.
