The 2013 reunion is now history. I enjoyed it, and had an opportunity to spend some time getting acquainted with Tyas. At last, he does something besides sleep. Then again, I could use a nap...

The puppy Barbara brought home for "my retirement present" has lived at our house for nine weeks now. Compton (aka "Fang") is showing signs of maturing, but still likes to use his sharp little puppy teeth (which, fortunately, have become a bit dull...) and his sharp dew claws. He is now living outside, and that is a definite improvement. He has an appointment with a surgical vet in a couple of days...

I was quite impressed by Sabrina's tethered sippy cup. My only concern is the length of time it will take her kids to discover how to untie the leash..

Do I still have the touch, or what?

AJ is definitely the clothes horse of the family, particularly when it comes to suits. According to his story (which I doubt he will ever get around to sharing in this venue) he purchased it at a second-hand store. The original price was $7, but AJ offered him $2, with the question, Who else would buy something like this? The proprietor thought a moment, and sold it to AJ for $2. Actually, I thought it looked quite nice... But then, I have one very similar (sans the pants) hanging in my closet.

Mark was in fine form at the reunion. He offered to take some of the rockhounds in the family out to the gravel pit, which is an excellent location to search for petrified wood. That was an excellent idea, but we ran out of time...

Cameras on cell phones are becoming ubiquitous, but I (being the dinosaur that I am) still regard colored cameras as toys...

They are a motley looking crew, but they are the best I could do...

The powers that be took photos by family. The differing number attending from each was interesting. This is Joan's...

And Thelma's

And Chad's

And Tom's

And Evalyn's

And Nella's

And Norma's

The auction was a great hit, as usual. Because there was a lot of stuff, its length exceeded the attention span of the younger set. I was lax in my donations this year, but next year will be different.

The Butte has a unique shape, and this photo would be a reminder of Woodruff, and the memories that I have of that place. If I had more wall space, this would look nice hanging on it...

Extreme close up photos of Wyatt's face distorts his looks almost as much as his new glasses. I had to look twice before I recognized him.

Sabrina ensconced in the "Hatch Corner" at the reunion. I don't remember who planned it, but we pretty well own that location...

Well, it's official. I am retired.
From my notice of intent to terminate: Advancing age, encroaching senescence, and other factors beyond my control impel me to embark on one last great adventure called retirement. It has been a great nine years, seven months, and eleven days. Thanks for the memories.

Most of my memories of Sun Life really have been good, but this sign has rankled me ever since I started working there.

  1. "Wash your hands of germs." The grammar in this group of words is incorrect.
  2. "Lather up and you'll send germs down the drain." This sentence is good.
  3. "Germs like the deadly E. coli bacteria that can cause everything from the cold and flu to hepatitis and dysentery." This line is wrong in numerous ways. First, it is a sentence fragment. Second, E. coli is not a deadly pathogen! It is normal intestinal flora. If you don't have it, you are probably very sick. Third, colds and flu are caused by viruses, not E. coli, which is correctly identified here as a bacteria. Viruses and bacteria are not even members of the same kingdom. I have more chemistry in common with E. coli than a flu virus does. Fourth, Hepatitis can have several causes, but E. coli is not one of them. Fifth, dysentery is caused by members of the Salmonella/Shigella family, not E. coli.
  4. "So come clean on washing your hands." "It only takes a minute." These last two sentences are good.
Three out of five is a failing grade in all the classes I have taken. Given the plethora of well trained and highly competent technical people employed by Sun Life, I have no idea how this sign ever made it on the wall, let alone remained in place for nine plus years. Oh well, things will be different after the revolution...
