Hello all! Life in Tulsa is just chugging along. We have started the task of Potty Training Alex. This came with some encouragement from his Blood Dr always wanting urine samples. If you have never had the opportunity to see how to take a sample from a 2 year old let me assure you that it is unpleasant and gross. |
So we have got Alex to where he will pee on demand in a cup but haven't made the transition to toilet use. I love this picture of Alex I have almost the same picture of Lauren. Two years old is such a fun age, everything is fun and new sticking things in our diaper seems like a very logically idea and so handy. |
Lauren did really well with Cheer leading this year. I know as her mom I'm biased but she stepped up her game and was loud and Proud. She won loudest girl at a three day camp she attended, as well as using the megaphone at three of our games this season. At practice the coach looks for the loudest girl who is paying attention and doing the task at hand to use the mega phone at the next game. she did really awesome this year. |
Her squad went to competition, there they took first place competing against third graders because no other second graders entered in to the event. It was a competition that is sponsored by Breast Cancer Awareness so naturally we had to do all the girls hair to look like a pink ribbon, yes Lauren still has glitter on her scalp five weeks after the event. |
Carson's school had a transportation parade, the children are asked to make a cardboard car and that walk around the school in the parade. Carson wanted a monster truck. He did really well with it, it turned out to be a bit big and hard not only to carry but to maneuver around the other kids. |
In the morning before the students go to their classroom there is a morning assembly at Carson's school. In that assembly the classes take turns doing the morning announcements. Each child gets the opportunity to speak in front of the school on a microphone. However if you misbehave you loose that privileged. |
Carson was so excited and nervous when he was chosen to use the microphone. He told me that he got to use the microphone because his teacher must like him as he didn't get into trouble. I asked him if the kids that get into trouble are only the kids that his teacher didn't like? He responded no she likes all kids good and bad but the bad kids just get into trouble some times. Can't argue with that one. |
The next day Carson had a note come home telling me he didn't do his work at school so he would need to do it for homework. I asked him about it he said see I told you some times kids get into trouble and no one knows why. |
I went with Carson's class to the pumpkin patch it was so much fun! We went on a hay ride and Carson insisted sitting in front of his teacher. When school started she asked me if there was anything she should know about Carson? I told her that if she was anywhere with in reach he would be next to her. Looks like I was right. |
Carson is the perfect middle child he is always happy and doesn't mind going along with what ever Lauren wants to do or what we have to do with Alex. He is a good little and big brother! |
Most of you all know Alex was recently hospitalized. His labs were really good, his blood was holding at a normal range and so was his liver. Then he got an ear infection that turned into a double ear infection. We did antibiotics for four weeks on and off trying to clear it up nothing seemed to help. |
As a result it sent his Autoimmune into a flare up. It caused his Hemoglobin to dropped. He relieved 4 blood transfusion and one dose of IVIG. Because they could not find an exact match to Alex blood due to all the antigens he has they had to put him in the ICU to monitor him closely. He didn't have any adverse reactions and did well with all the procedures. While there Alex had to have four transfusions, three IV's, seven blood draws, and one dose of IVIG. |
We were informed thru our Hospital Mafia informant that if we paid the right price they would entertain the idea of letting us out. So Zeke, Alex and I all gave them blood and we were allowed to go home. Just kidding, being in the hospital we were able to talk with the right Doctors and the Genetic testing that we have been waiting 5 weeks to do was able to me done. The testing required Zeke's, Alex's and my blood. |
Hopefully this tests will help figure out what underlinging condition Alex might have. If they do come up with an underlining condition we might have something we can treat as opposed to waiting until these flareups. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.
