Hello once again!

I thought I would write and convey some funny stories and share some more photos that do not apply to the stories, but worth seeing just the same. First, some more photos of the cake-pops that I made from the last newsletter.

So, Carson is getting ready to turn a year-old in a couple of days. At 4 months old Carson started sleeping through the night, then at around 7 months, he stopped. I accounted it to his need for food, then because he was not drinking enough throughout the day. Well, since then, there have only been a handful of nights were he did not get up at least once. He usually eats and then goes right back to sleep. So, we tried several different things to remedy this situation, we moved him into his own room, swaddled him, put him on a schedule of eating drinking and sleep time, and tried background music, all to no avail. I had then tried to get him to go to sleep all by himself, hoping that if he did wake up he would just put himself back to sleep. It made no difference.

One night, I woke with Carson for the third time, and when he decided that he did not want to go to sleep I felt strongly compelled to just lay him in his crib, climb back into my bed and let it run its course. Well, several silent minutes passed and I was feeling victorious! When I heard Carson start to grumble, well this woke Lauren who was sleeping next to him and she so lovingly said "hey Baby! SHHHH." Again several minutes of silence and then Carson once again grumbled. Lauren a little more loudly said "HEY BABY! SHHH It's night, night time!" I was laying in my bed unable to stop the giggles as this went on for about ten minutes. I might have laid there longer, except Lauren had enough and in an attempt to make herself understood said "HEY BABY! SHUT UP! NIGHT, NIGHT TIME BABY!" At that I got up and retrieved Carson.

I had the pumpkins seen in the photo that needed to be canned so, I began that process. Lauren and Carson were actually pretty helpful and we did almost all of it in one day. I started with two large Jack-O-Lantern pumpkins, four pie pumpkins and three small decorative pumpkins. I found that the small decorative pumpkins were not only really hard to cut they were very bitter and in the end I just threw them away.

I removed all the seeds from each variety and plan to keep the seed to plant next year. I have tired to roast the seeds, and they turned out well the last time I did it, but we did not eat them before they went bad so, this year I opted to just save the seeds for planting.

In one of the large pumpkins I found this guy sprouting. I removed him and put him in a jar in the window, since then he has turned a lovely shade of green. We will see how he survives the winter.

Another story I must convey is that Carson is starting to make sounds such as Dada, Mama, Abbie, Owie, and so on. He and Lauren were playing and Carson kept saying "Mama" and Lauren would respond, "NO, dares Mama (point to me), I big girl, Nowie." It is lots of fun to watch them play. Carson is attracted to anything dangerous. The result is that he gets lots of bruises and some scrapes now and again. Last night he cut his hand on something and it bled some. So, this morning as soon as Lauren noticed it, she came running to me to inform me that Carson had an "Owie, and needed a "Bunny." (a band-aide for those who don't speak Laurenieese.

For the past week or so, we have all been sick. Lauren started and we followed suit. So, Friday, I thought after almost a week of constant crying and fit throwing I should seek medical help to remedy the situation. To the pediatrician we went. I took Carson in hope of paying one co-pay and getting advice for two children. As we pulled into the parking lot Lauren starts to vocalize that she does not want an "Owie" from the "Docta" I reassured her she will not get one, at least not today. Once I have given the lady at the front desk a portion of my fortune, (and she is satisfied that they will make enough profit from me), I am shown to the exam room. It should also be noted that: The receptionist commented that my children do not come in for sickness, only for regular visits. Did she mean that I have healthy children, Or, was she trying to convince me that I should bring them in more often, as they don't see enough of my fortune. Once in the exam room I pry off (there were minimal tears involved) Lauren's coat which I had to bribe her to put on. (Dad often spoke of children's wires not being connected and I wonder how many are truly connected. Especially after weeks like last week.) The nurse comes to get Lauren's weight, which after trying to convince Lauren that she will get on the scale as I am going to get my moneys worth out of this appointment, she does, again with minimal tears. The Dr. comes in and Lauren blubbers the whole time she is in there. It is decided that Lauren has an ear infection and will need some antibiotics. The Dr. asked Lauren if she wanted a sticker and Lauren, not so politely, said "NO!" The Dr. then looks at Carson and recommends plenty of liquids and rest. So, we go to leave and as we are walking down the hall, Lauren started to scream that she wanted a sticker, but when the Dr. hands her the basket of stickers, she notices they are not the usual kids stickers but Christmas sticker which, she under no circumstances wants. I tell Lauren that we will just go home. She then rethinks her options about no sticker or a Christmas one and decides that she does want a sticker. The Dr. just picks one and hands it to me telling me that the antibiotics and pain meds will help fix all of that, as she draws an air circle around Lauren. Horray for little ones and their opinions!

That night after we got home, Carson spent most of the night screaming which, I assumed was due to the fact that he too had an ear infection, so much for my master plan. It is the start of a new week and I think that the kids are almost back to normal and it is just Zeke and I who are sick. The small jars are Pumpkin jam for those wondering. I made 21 Quarts of pumpkin, 9 jars of Jam, three loaves of Pumpkin bread, and pumpkin cookies with one cup left over.

We will be headed to AZ the 24th of Dec. Can't wait to see you all, and I sincerely hope none of you get what we had!!!

Love ya
Zeke, Mylinda, Lauren, Carson Ellis
