HI to everyone! It was really good to see all of those who we were able to see when we came to visit. Most everyone that we saw while we were there has already seen pic of the ice storm however I felt compelled to show them anyway. |
Our power went out the 10 of Dec 2007 at about 1:15 am. Zeke and I were sound asleep when we heard the cracking of tree limbs and popping of transformers. We soon realized that we had no power and called to let our local power providers know of our situation. It turned out that a tree limb had fallen in the front of the house knocking the cable across our two trucks and car. While another tree limb fell on the house shaking it something like I would think an earth quake would feel and knocking out the weather head on the house and the line away from the house. |
Monday we drove to Joplin Missouri to get a generator. We had called Sears to see if they in fact had one in the store. They said that they did and we paid for the stupid thing on line. After calling again to make sure that if we drove out there they would in fact have the generator for us to pick up. So off we went. About ten minutes from the store we received a phone call informing us that they have been out of Generators for two days. |
Zeke being too angry to talk to the lady handed the phone to me. Yelling at her was not going to get us a generator so we decided to go into Lowes for a bathroom break and it happened to be the only place that had power. After entering the store we were blessed because they had just received a shipment of generator (which turned out to be a lower cost and better voltage then sears) so we bought one and headed home. |
No one had power from Oklahoma city to about middle of Missouri. There was one gas station opened and was only open because it was next to a toll both and heaven forbid anyone drive on the toll roads and not be able to pay for it. So we waited 1 hr and 45 minutes to get gas. It was reported that some 2 million people were with out power. Zeke was thoughtful enough to hook up the heater in the house to the generator and we were pretty well set. We cooked on a camp stove and had extension cords plugged in for the lights, frige, freezer, and fish tank. Our power was out for 14 days. |
Due to our weather head that needed to be repaired. Our landlord's idea was to let the power company try to fix it. Naturally they came to our house days after the outage and upon seeing that the weather head was not repaired coiled up the power line and secured it to the telephone poll not bothering to even come in and tell us that we should have the weather head fixed. Our landlord only then decided that an electrician would have to come and fix the weather head. Now as you can imagine we were not the only people who were waiting for the electrician to come. Finally the weather head was fixed. Everyone else except out neighbors to the left had power on our block. |
We call the power company to inform them we fixed the weather head and was told they would come out ASAP. four days passed and still no power I then began calling every morning and evening talking with someone else each time. |
Thursday night on the news it was announced that everyone in Tulsa (where I live) who could have power (that would be me) did in fact have power ( I did not!) I called the electric company to let them know that they were in fact mistaken. Low and behold Friday morning the same announcement was on the news. So we called the news station to let them know that not everyone who could did have power. |
Unfortunately no one seemed to care that the store was mistaken and they continued to make that proud announcement every change they got. We finally gave up Saturday morning waiting for the power packed our things and made the house ready for the trip to AZ letting the power come on when ever it felt so incline to do so. |
IT did finally come on 14 days after it went out. We were blessed enough to have a food supply and water so that was one thing we didn't worry about. |
It was great seeing everyone sorry it wasn't for a longer period of time. Hope you all had a great New Year. Love Mylinda, Zeke and Baby Ellis |
