Alex had a weekly blood test and it showed that his HGB (hemoglobin) level dropped from 9.3 to 7.3 (normal range for his age is 11 to 15 gr/dl) so the hematologist wanted to do a blood transfusion. We were omitted to the hospital March 13, 2015 at 8:30am. At 9:30pm we finally had the transfusion. On March 14, 2015 at 9:00 an IVIG drip was started lasting eight hours. On Sunday March 15, 2015 Alex was tested to see if he still had parvovirus or fifth disease, and he does. We are waiting to start retuxtius until he is virus free. Alex is handling everything really well. He is pretty amazing, they put in an IV and he walks around pushing his pole. They keep him in one room and he just plays in different corners as if he has as much room as he would in a house. His over all attitude is up and down depending in what drugs he has been given. The steroids make him short tempered, but also make him hungry so he is always snacking. |
Friday was Lauren's birthday and since we knew we would be in hospital we celebrated with cake the night before. Lauren wanted to decorate her cake all by herself and she did an awesome job. Spreading frosting isn't as easy as it looks :). Lauren turned 7 and loves horses and the color white. She is a great helper and also enjoys tormenting her younger brothers. She is kind and thoughtful. |

Carson is a funny guy, he is kind hearted and wants to help but doesn't always know the best way to show that. He tells me things like, "My brain is telling me that I should eat candy and play electronic devices all the time." He and Alex have a funny relationship. Alex is always petting Carson's head and Carson just adores Alex. They are all very cute.
