Hi there! The newest and greatest thing happening here at the Ellis house is that our septic started to act up, now I don't want to complain but if you have ever had to wash more then one dinner's worth of dishes in the bath room that is located on the other end of the house then your kitchen you might understand why it is that I was in need of having my septic fixed! Cooking dinner with out running water is slightly annoying. |
I am however lucky enough to have a handy husband. There is a quote from a show that I enjoy watching. I find this show to be very amusing because the main character reminds me of Dad. The Quote is "if your wife does not find you handsome she should at least find you handy." I find Zeke being both. The show is titled The Red And Green Show, although I am not sure how long it has been running I do enjoy it. |
Lauren is always right there and ready to help, however she did find it very annoying that she could not just walk over the ditch with out assistance. |
She is a very good helper, and especially loves to help her dad. She was trying to be like him and mimicking all that he did. So she picked up the cans of glue and cleaner for PVC, however upon not knowing what they were for she decided it would just be best to dump them out. She is very funny to watch. |
This is part of the handy work that the previous owner left for us. The drain directly behind the washer drains but is slow and not able to handle the amount of water that a washer produces so their solution was a put a hole in the wall and drain there. However the hole in the wall is higher then the drain on the washer.... Zeke and I dug up what seemed to be the entire back yard and never found the piping for the drain behind the washer. It does not run into the septic but as I said we still do not know where it goes. So while we were digging this was out temp solution to needing to wash cloths. |
The previous owners also cut off the end of a T joint as a solution to a clogged pipe. It worked for some time but in the end to bugs and soggy ground were more then we could handle and thus we dug up the pipe, cleaned it out, and capped the hole. I do have to say all in all the project took longer then planned, but if I use the formula that dad provided in an earlier news letter I come away thinking we still came away from this project ahead. |
I was also able to finally plant our garden. After digging up all the piping for the septic we found that the only place in the yard that does not have good soil is right were the garden is. The up side is that there is also no piping there, and I am more grateful that it was easier to dig up the pipes then the garden. However we decided that we would go all out this year and Zeke gave me a book on how to garden with the most amount of produce in the least amount of space. |
So we tilled the ground, then did what is called double digging. So one digs down 24 inches and puts 12 inches of dirt one the row that was just previously dug. Long story short we planned to do 250 square feet. We did not even make is half way before we came to the conclusion that it was not worth the effort. The soil was almost solid clay. When you did get through the clay there were also rocks to contend with. So after digging for about two weeks and not getting half way we gave up and decided to plant two identical gardens and see which one grows better the side that was double dug or the side that was only tilled. Stay tuned for that answer. |
Carson is a really easy going baby and did minimal complaining of being ignored and made to sit out side all day. |
Standing did not last too long, Carson gave up and took a nap. He is growing faster then I remember Lauren doing but then I'm not known for my memory. He has also started to teeth, not teeth yet but there is an extraordinary amount of saliva coming from him. So much so that when one of our couple friends watched him the husband made the comment that he leaks A LOT! I laughted and Zeke said he is his mother's son. |
This is the yard at the end of day two not so bad? Well we will see some of you the end of this month. The kids and I will be in AZ from the 21st of May to the 21st of June. | |
Miss you all, Zeke, Mylinda, Lauren, and Carson Ellis |
