Hellllllooooo family! I just returned yesterday from Girls camp. What a good time I had. Before I tell you all about it let me fill you in on some of the things that Zeke and I have been up to. Nathen this picture is for you. It is Mylinda on the Wheelman. I am actually riding it.
There is another picture of Zeke on the wheelman. For those of you who don't know Zeke and I got this little scooter looking thing. It is called a wheelman. Not as cool as a four-wheeler but fun just the same. It looks easy but takes some getting used to. I fell more times then I can count. Zeke however seems to be able to get on and just go. It must be a guy thing. So the idea is you put your feet in the wheels. You have to start with the wheelman leaning on the ground. Then with the right foot still touching the ground you lift the left foot wheel so that it is standing straight up. As you give the wheelman gas you should be able to use the forward motion to keep you upright. Not as easy as it sounds. You have to turn using your body weight and moving your right foot left and right. Wearing the proper safety gear you can fall and not get to badly hurt. Hooray for safety gear. We were out there for about four hours and it was a really good time. We will go again this afternoon if the weather isn't bad. We were down town and there was a sale on roller blades so Zeke and I bought new ones and went out on them. Don't have any pictures, as I wasn't sure if I could skate let alone take pictures. Next letter I will put in pictures.
Ok GIRLS CAMP! What a MESS! From the time that I said that I would go to the time that I got home it was one problem after another. First we needed a way to get down there so we borrowed a family in the wards van. I swore I wouldn't ever own a van but driving it wasn't so bad. The morning we left started out pretty good. We got on the road with little trouble. Then one of the campers who was learning to read a map wanted to navigate for me. So I told her ok. We are going from Hanau to Basel. Just give me a straight route there. Ok she responded! Head towards Stuttgart. Now Hanau is on the middle of Germany and Basel is on the east south side. Stuttgart is one the way so that turned out well. Then we ran into some road construction and were detoured down this little winding road. We were on that road for about three hours. Once we got to the boarder we looked for a place to buy a toll sticker to enter Switzerland. Couldn't find any such thing when we came to a guard shack he waved us through I stopped to ask him and he said no don't worry about it and said we needed to just keep driving. So we didn't get a toll sticker. Then we needed gas. Now the way it is set up here is that we can buy Esso fuel coupons here on post and then can use them off post at the German Esso stations so that we don't have to pay the 3.79 a litter like the Germans have to. The truck takes 75 litters to fill up. If that gives you any idea of what the cost would be. Well no such luck couldn't find any Esso station. Everyone that we saw on the map was not of the road. Now here you can buy an Esso map so you know where the Esso stations are but it isn't as correct as it should be. We ended up just going to a gas station and filling up there. Which cost 98 Swiss franks. There are about three Swiss franks to the dollar. We finally made there about four hour late. A five-hour drive took us 11 hours.
Once there we unpacked and got settled in. We were staying in the Swiss Alps in a barn that the week before the cows lived in. We slept up stair and had our meetings and some meals down stairs.
We cooked out side under the blue and white ramada on the left side of this picture.
The road up there was only one lane road that was about fifteen miles long, with a drop off on one side.
The week that we were there is rained almost every day. Most morning we woke up to this view. It was really pretty where we were staying. The girls went on a 3 or 5 mile hike. I was going to go on the 5 mile hike but some girls didn't bring any wet weather gear so mine was borrow so they could go. I did get to go on the three mile one.
There were wild strawberries on the side of the road. (insert pic of wild strawberries) My legs were pretty sore the day after. One of the girls forgot her lunch on the five mile hike and we didn't notice until they had already started up the hill so I said that I would run it up to here. The hill didn't look that steep. OH my goodness! I ran about twenty feet up this mountain and when I got up to them my lungs were on fire. I had never felt such pain. I ran so much that my throat burned every time I took a breath. I had a raspy voice. It was bad. In fact when I got back down the hill I wanted to throw up. My legs were all shaky. I guess that is what I get for running up a hill. I got my exercise for that day. So I went on a 3-mile hike after that.
So I took four girls with me to camp. (insert pic of four girls.) They were a lot of fun and we had a really good time over all. I lost my keys the day before we came home but the girls were really good about it and prayed to find them when that didn't work they didn't even hesitate and we all fasted. It only took about two hours of fasting to find the keys. I was really impressed with how spiritually strong these young ladies were. We also did a skit one night they gave us 15 words and we had to use 12 of them in our skit. The words didn't go together but we had a good time. Our skit was a fashion show and we were all weird names. Mine was scrumdidlyumtious. Then there was marmite, asufart (exit in German), mellow yellow, and turnip. missing image of skit Well I hope this finds you and yours doing well.
