Hi to everyone. So after talking dad's ear off about the new world of cloth diapers he informed me that I should put them in my news letter. So here it is. Lauren wears cloth diapers when we are at home. Some may be skeptical about it but washing a diaper of a baby that is nursing is no problem! So the old fashion diapers were a square piece of cloth that was folded and safety pinned to the baby. Then some kind of water proof layer was put on top of that. Now the diapers are made out of PUL material and are form fitted.
|
It is done in many layers. The first is chemically treated to be water proof that is the PUL material. Usually there is a pocket where a multi layer insert can be placed and an inner layer that is usually fleece material. The insert is made up of towel like material to be absorbent.

Some of these diapers come in different sizes Small, Medium, large etc. Others are a one size fits all. The one size fits all have snaps and can be folded into different sizes. |
Other diapers have Velcro as their fasteners. I prefer the snaps but have both. The down side to cloth is that they are more bulky then disposable.

Because of the bulkiness the child may have to wear cloths that are too big to accommodate. But all in all I like the cloth. Now, cost wise, I have not been able to find ones that I like locally, or at least a price I'm willing to pay for them. So to ebay I went in search of what I wanted. Yes I found it. I purchased the one size fits all for $5.40 shipping included. So I would have to use the diapers 30 times to equal the cost of a disposable, that does not include cost of washing. However I don't use cloth because they are cheaper, I use them so I don't add to the growing amount of waste that the America people produce each year. I figure if I have three kids who all wear these diapers then I should get my moneys worth and then some. |
I have also learned something that if the diapers stains, just simply setting it out in the sun shine will usually make the stain go away. I was surprised that it worked.

In other news Zeke and put a bid on a house that was foreclosed and the bid was accepted. So assuming that the house passes inspection then we will be the proud owners on $67,000 (sorry dad I told you incorrectly) of debt. The house has three bedroom and two bathrooms. It sits on just over a .5 acre of land. The house is brick and yellow (of course) and even comes with two stoves. I know, pretty impressive for someone that doesn't even use one stove now. I will totally be upgrading! |
The kitchen also has a trash compactor and there are five ceiling fans in the living room, dinning room, and kitchen. There is a garage and tons of storage in the attic. The storage runs the full length of the house and is tall enough to stand in it. Feb. 2007 the house was appraised for $113,000 but because it is a for closer, and the last tenants did not clean up very well the bank is just trying to get rid of it. Hurray for us!
