Nathen gathered these pictures and ask that I write about them. We lost our Adobe programs when we got a new computer and I am missing those programs immensely. We camped on the back side of Mount Graham. This is one of my favorite spots. I love the open areas and how they invite playing. I also love the lack of people in the neighboring camp areas. Though it is a beast to get there. We missed those that didn't make it. |
Last June out little Serra was born. This was her first camping trip. I think she loved it. She got to be held almost 24/7 and I think she loved every minute of it. |
It has become tradition to bring a t-shirt to this camp out. This has to be my favorite so far. Everyone liked them, so maybe we will choose the same theme next year too. |
The boys really enjoyed this camp out. Their favorite activity were the games. They loved bad mitten the most. But also enjoyed all the other games Sabrina and Braxton brought. |
The meals were delicious and it was so nice to have Mylinda's family there. We missed Zeke and Alex but we were grateful that Carson, Mylinda and Lauren were able to come! |
The
weather was pretty decent. The first night we had a few rain
storms that came in. They sounded pretty wet, but by morning
there was not any trace of rain during the night. The second
night it also rained, then on Sunday afternoon it rained during the
day. The temperature was a tad high, and oddly at night it didn't
cool of as it normally does. |
There was a
deer that was in the camp when we first arrived. It wandered
around and was seen a few times over the days while we were camped in
the campground. |
Someone
brought the famous bucket of cheese balls. I am not sure who it
was, but like always there were very good - at least until the level
got down to about half full. After that they get pretty dirty
from all of the smaller hands helping themselves. |
Karren was
bringing the tortillas, and since she didn't make it we had to
improvise. We ended up making tortillas to support the breakfast
burritos. Mia mixed and rolled them and we cooked them.
They turned out amazing. There wasn't a rolling pin and she rolled them
with Janelle's water bottle. And, yet they were the best tortillas ever! |
The
food assignments this year were simple. We skipped Lunch and
still had too much to eat. The dutch ovens were put to work and
they produced some lovely pizza. |
On Saturday, some people took a trip up to the top of the mountain in the back of AJ's truck.
The main event on Sunday was bad mitten and ladder golf. I
believe all involved enjoyed the games more on the second day than the
trip on the first. |
Dave
and Betty Anne had just made it back from the Philippines and made the
trip down to join us in the camping. It was nice to have them
there. Barbara didn't come this year - we missed her! |
There were a number of dogs at the camp this year. 4 in total. But they seemed to have a good enough time just playing around. |
Katie
& Jared ended up having some vehicle issues as they headed up the
mountain. They damaged the underside of their prius and had to
turn back. This also led to Laura & Fred, Karren & Ashley
all turning back. They were missed. |
It is hard
to try to pick a camping spot. No matter where it is chosen,
someone doesn't like it for some reason. This place, although
local to almost everyone has a rough road, and requires a vehicle with
high clearance to make it to the spot. It does lack neighbors
though which is a HUGE plus. |
Next
year's camping spot was discussed. Some wanted to go to
Flagstaff, some wanted to come back to this spot. It might even
be fun to try something up near Silver City, NM. New area to
explore, probably no many people, but a bit of a drive for some.
The roads would probably be better. I suspect the elevation would
be around 6,500-7,500 feet. Not sure what the rain or
temperatures would be like though. I guess we have a year to
figure it out. |
We didn't end up with the total family group shot. This is the best we came away with this year. |
