Cocoa Drop Cookies

  • ½ cup shortening (may be part butter)
  • 1¾ cup sifted flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ tsp soda
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup butter milk or sour milk
  • ½ cup cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
Cream the shortening, sugar and the egg, then add the butter milk and vanilla and stir. Sift together and add flour, salt, soda, and cocoa and stir again. Fold in the nuts. Chill the dough for 1 hour, then drop by teaspoons 2 inches apart on a double cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 400° F.
